Breathing & tempo: Take a big breath and brace before the bar leaves your chest, hold that brace through the sticking point as the bar passes your head, then exhale as you finish the lockout. A controlled 2-1-1 tempo (2s up under control isn't the limiting factor here — focus the count on a deliberate 1–2s pause at the chest before each press) keeps the bar path honest and prevents you from using momentum.
How should you warm up for the overhead press?
Do an empty-bar set of 10–15 reps to groove the bar path and overhead position, then ramp up in 2–4 sets — for example 40% × 5, 60% × 3, 80% × 1 — resting fully before your first work set.
