What is Training Frequency?
Training frequency is how many times per week you train a specific muscle group, or how many workout sessions you complete overall, before repeating that same stimulus. A full-body routine performed 3 days a week gives every muscle a frequency of 3; a traditional "bro split" that hits one muscle group per day gives each muscle a frequency of roughly 1. Frequency is not a training goal on its own — it's the delivery schedule for your weekly training volume, the sets and reps you actually need to get stronger or build muscle.
How it works
Training frequency works by controlling how the sets you need each week get spread across sessions. A single hard workout raises muscle protein synthesis for roughly 24-48 hours before it returns toward baseline, so splitting 12-16 weekly sets for a muscle across two or three sessions — instead of cramming them into one — lets you train that muscle again while the anabolic response is still elevated, and keeps any one session from becoming so long or fatiguing that form and effort break down late in the workout.
