How we picked.

"Free" is where fitness apps get slippery. Some are free-with-caps (Hevy limits routines and history), some are free-to-log-but-pay-for-everything-else (Strong), and one popular option (Fitbod) has no permanent free tier at all, so it isn't on this list. We ranked purely on what you keep without paying: how much you can log, whether you're capped, and whether the useful features — progression, programs, calculators — are actually free or just a trial. Every free-tier limit here was checked against each vendor's own pricing or help page and its App Store or Google Play listing in July 2026.

We build Nishaana, so we have a point of view — but the honesty matters more than the ranking. Strong's free unlimited logging is genuinely excellent, JEFIT's free library is the biggest, and Boostcamp's free programs are hard to beat; we say so above. Where Nishaana leads is the total free package: no caps, free 1RM and TDEE calculators, free auto-progression, and the whole thing running in a browser.

How to read a free tier

Watch for routine and history caps. A free app that forgets your data after three months, or won't let you save a fourth routine, isn't really free for a committed lifter.

Check whether progression is free. Storing your numbers is table stakes; telling you the next target is the valuable part, and most apps charge for it. Nishaana's basic auto-progression is free.

Free calculators are rare. A working 1RM, TDEE or macro tool you can use without paying is unusual on this list — it's Nishaana's clearest free advantage.

Coming from a paid app? Bring your history.

Move from Strong, Hevy, JEFIT, Fitbod, Boostcamp or a spreadsheet in about 30 seconds — free. Every workout and PR comes across, so you start exactly where you left off.

FAQ

Common questions.

What is the best free workout app in 2026?

Nishaana is the best free workout app overall because logging, programs and calculators are free forever with no routine or history caps, plus it runs in your browser and adds free auto-progression. Strong is the best free pure logger (unlimited history), and Hevy the best free social app, though both cap free routines.

Is there a genuinely free workout app with no time limit?

Yes. Nishaana, Strong, JEFIT, Boostcamp and FitNotes all have permanent free tiers with no trial expiry. Nishaana and JEFIT place the fewest caps on the free tier; Strong is unlimited for logging but caps custom routines at three.

Which free workout app has no routine or history limits?

Nishaana keeps logging, programs and history free with no caps. Strong offers unlimited free history but caps custom routines at three, while Hevy free limits you to four routines and three months of stats history.

Do free workout apps include a program?

Some do. Nishaana ships built-in free programs (PPL, 5×5, Starting Strength) and Boostcamp offers a large free library of coach programs. Strong and Hevy free tiers focus on logging, so you bring your own plan.

Can I use a free workout app on my computer?

Nishaana is the standout for this — the full app runs in any browser and on desktop, free, with no download. Most free apps (Strong, Hevy, FitNotes) are phone-only; JEFIT lets you plan on the web but log on mobile.
