Breathing & tempo: Take a large breath into your belly and brace your core hard before you break the bar off the floor, hold that brace through the pull, and exhale only once you lock out standing tall. Lower the bar under control over about 2 seconds rather than dropping it — in rep training, let the plates settle on the floor and reset your brace before each rep so you train the full range from a dead stop.
How should you warm up for the sumo deadlift?
Prime the hips, adductors and glutes before you load up — the wide stance needs mobility. Do a few sets of cossack squats, adductor rockbacks, band pull-aparts and bodyweight sumo hinges, then ramp to your working weight over 4–5 sets, for example 40% × 5, 60% × 3, 75% × 2, 90% × 1. What are the most common sumo deadlift mistakes?
