How many carbs should you eat before training?
Carbohydrates are the main pre-workout fuel. Aim for roughly 1-3 g of carbs per kg of bodyweight when you eat 1-3 hours out, scaling the amount down the closer you get to training. Carbs top up muscle glycogen and blood glucose, which powers hard sets and high-intensity efforts. For a 75 kg lifter, that is anywhere from about 75 g in a quick pre-session snack to 200 g-plus in a full meal a few hours earlier.
Carbs matter because they are the fuel your body reaches for first during moderate-to-hard training. Muscle stores carbohydrate as glycogen, and when those stores run low, output and endurance fall off. Murray and Rosenbloom's review on glycogen for athletes lays this out plainly: glycogen availability is a limiting factor in prolonged and repeated high-intensity exercise. Should you eat protein before training?

Keep total daily caffeine under about 400 mg for most adults, and avoid big doses within roughly 8 hours of bed — caffeine has a long half-life, and the sleep you lose costs you more recovery than the session gained. How much should you drink before training?
Go into training well hydrated rather than trying to catch up mid-session. A practical target is about 5-7 ml of fluid per kg of bodyweight in the few hours before exercise, then a 200-300 ml top-up 15-30 minutes before you start. Even mild dehydration lowers strength, endurance and focus. For a 75 kg lifter, that early intake works out to roughly 400-500 ml spread out, not gulped at once.
The simplest gauge is urine colour: pale yellow means you are in good shape, dark yellow means drink more. You do not need to over-drink — chugging a litre at the door just leaves you sloshing and needing the bathroom. Sip across the day instead, and finish topping up shortly before you train.
