Breathing & tempo: Take a breath and brace your core before you descend, hold that brace through the bottom, and exhale as you drive up through the hardest part of the rep. A 2-second descent with a controlled 1–2 second ascent is a good default tempo for building strength and control.

How should you warm up for the goblet squat?

Do a couple of bodyweight squats to depth, then one or two light-load goblet squat sets of 10–12 reps to groove your stance and depth before adding your working weight. Ankle and hip mobility drills (deep squat holds, hip circles) help if you struggle to reach depth comfortably.

What are the most common goblet squat mistakes?

  • Letting the weight drift away from the chest — Keep the dumbbell or kettlebell hugged tight to your sternum. If it pulls away, your biceps and shoulders take over and you'll feel unstable at the bottom.

What counts as a good rep?

A full goblet squat rep starts standing tall with the weight at your chest, descends until your hip crease reaches at least knee level, and returns to full standing hip and knee extension.
