How do you do the sit-up?
To do the Sit-Up: lie on your back with your knees bent to roughly 45–90° and your feet flat on the floor, hip-width apart; cross your arms over your chest, or rest your fingertips lightly at your ears — don't lace your fingers behind your head and pull; brace your core and tuck your chin slightly, then start the movement by curling your ribcage toward your pelvis; continue rolling up through your spine until your torso is roughly vertical over your hips, exhaling as you rise.

- Keep a fist-sized gap between your chin and chest; rest your hands lightly at your ears without pulling your head forward.
- Feet position
- Whether your feet are anchored under a bar or left free on the floor, keep it consistent set to set — anchoring shifts more work to the hip flexors.
- Tempo

Breathing & tempo: Exhale as you curl up and inhale as you lower back down. A controlled 2–1–2 tempo (2s up, 1s pause, 2s down) keeps tension on the abs instead of relying on momentum.
How should you warm up for the sit-up?

What are the most common sit-up mistakes?
- Lacing fingers behind the head and yanking on the neck — Rest your hands lightly at your ears or cross your arms over your chest, and let your abs — not your hands — do the pulling.

RPE / RIR: Keep most sets around RPE 6–8 (2–4 reps in reserve) while you're building volume. Save all-out, max-rep sets for occasional fitness-test practice rather than every session — your hip flexors and lower back need recovery time like any other muscle group.
Sit-ups don't need to be trained daily to improve; 2–4 sessions a week with a day of rest between hard sets is enough for most people. Place them near the end of a session, after your main lifts, since a fatigued core can compromise squat, deadlift or overhead pressing form.

Is the sit-up safe?
